To create an effective rogue pvp build you must first consider all of the aspects of how rogues attack and defend themselves. Following a proven rogue build model can help you tremendously when fighting in pvp. When engaging a rogue character in PvP,many classes will want to try to kite your rogue rather than engage you in melee combat. Warriors, other rogues, paladins, and occasionally (brave) shamans can be exceptions to this rule. So in order to nuetralize this tactic it is imperative that you make smart use of your cooldowns (Sprint, Blind, Vanish, Preparation) and Crippling Poison. Your playing style and strategy may vary quite widely according to how you build your rogue’s talent. Rogues are melee glass cannons therefore it’s very important that rogues get the first attack in so they don’t suffer crippling damage right from the start.
Because most of your rogue’s most powerful abilities will come from stealth, you must master the most important rogue pvp tactics including the ability to bring your rogue back into stealth in the middle of a fight. This is a critically important skill when making a quality rogue pvp build and will greatly improve your rogue’s survivability and damage output. Following is a list of ways for you to get your rogue back into stealth while engaged in combat.
* Vanish. Using the vanish ability on a 3 minute cooldown.
* Blind, run out of combat.
* Gouge, Sprint, run out of combat.
* Apply Crippling Poison on the target and simply run away from combat.
* Kidney Shot, run away from combat.
From stealth, a rogue has many unconventional options available to him:
* Sap, bandage.
* Sap, wait for his own debuffs or an enemy’s buffs/shields/heal-over-times to run out.
* Sap, Cheap Shot, run away and re-stealth for extra combo points on the target.
Against Melee
Against melee characters, stuns and disables are very important. Melee characters usually have high chances to parry/block melee attacks. Because all or your Rogues moves are melee, this can easily throw off your timing. jThe ability to stun an opponent (and runn behind them, therefore forcing them to turn around) removes his ability to parry, block, and dodge your attacks, and lets your moves go through much smoother.
Against melee characters who have a slow weapon, stuns are really important. A carefully timed kidney shot/gouge can mean avoiding an ugly chunk of Windfury. The best time to stun your oppenent is right before they take a swing. The worst time to stun is right after a swing. Just think of [Cataclysm's Edge] as a big spell with a 3.50 casting time. Your goal is to interrupt it as late as possible.
Since an enemy melee character relies heavily on their damage output with their weapons, as opposed to casters who rely on spells, Dismantle can prove an effective way of rendering an opponent unable to produce any significant damage output.
A carefully designed rogue pvp talent build will allow your rogue to dominate other pvp players no matter what their class or race. Remember you must always think about who you will be fighing against beforehand and develop a solid strategy for victory must like developing a strategy when playing chess.
